Another Way In: an introduction to queer constellations

What happens at the point where the flow of a love stops?

Where the family map runs out, where the language doesn't fit, where the moves that usually open the heart seem to stall.

What then?

Overlapping translucent screenprinted circles in near-black, sage green, warm taupe, and magenta on warm off-white paper.

What if the place where it stalls is the way in?

What this is

Family constellation looks at a life from a standing-back distance — what the system you're sitting in is carrying, and what it has stopped seeing.

It works by re-membering what a system has forgotten. When a part that was left out is given its place, something in the body settles.

Which is what makes systemic constellation the exact work for queerness and otherness. The part of a family that gets left out is often the part that wouldn't fit, and this method's whole business is the part that was left out.

This session is an introduction to working that way.

Who is it for

You might identify as one of the many colours of queer. You might be close to it by blood, by profession, or by some other affiliation. Either way, the existence of queer is dear to you in some way.

If you've never done constellation work, nothing here is assumed. You'll be inside it within the first twenty minutes.

If you are acquainted with family constellation, the queer view reaches differently into the same field you already know. You may be meeting new ground, however long you've worked the method.

This, too, belongs

In constellation work everyone belongs, including what hasn't been seen. That isn't only how a constellation goes. It's how the room is run.

You arrive as you are. What has had to stay quiet elsewhere is already included here, without needing to be explained or shown.

What actually happens

Ninety minutes, hands-on early. Work in pairs or small groups, self-work and collective work, with time to talk and integrate.

You'll be taking part rather than watching. That's what makes it work, and if something doesn't sit right for you on the day, we find a way between us.

We meet on Zoom. Numbers are kept small.

Take care to have: a computer, a private hour and a half, and a few small objects — sticky notes, coins, pen and paper, all work. Somewhere you won't be interrupted.

Take care to bring your curiosity along, too. It may enjoy the participation as much as you do.

Bare feet standing on a purple felt marker cut in a curved shape, with a second lilac marker placed apart on a wooden floor.

A stuck place stops being a wall and shows itself as a doorway you happen to be standing in.

Ninety minutes is where this starts

A full queer constellation training module in English is being planned. The mailing list above is where it will be announced.
